How to start practicing inversions safely at home?

I am working towards headstand (Sirsasana) at home, but feel too much load in my neck. When I press the forearms down I lose my balance. What beginner drills should I repeat safely before trying the full inversion?

A good reference is roughly 20% of the load on the crown and 80% on the forearms. Set up at the wall, press the forearms until the head feels almost light, and only then lift the legs. If the neck compresses, come down and build strength in Dolphin first.

Come down before the neck tires, not after. Three short holds with full forearm pressure teach more than one long, collapsing hold.

Eight years of practice speaking: I did the wall drill almost every day for two months. The first weeks felt pointless, then the crown simply went light.
