Why do some teachers bring the arms down to the front and others to the sides in Sun Salutation A?

In Ashtanga I sweep to the sides, but in a Vinyasa class the teacher brought the hands down in front. Which one is right?

Both are right. Sweeping to the sides is common in Ashtanga and opens the chest; bringing the hands to heart then down is a softer variation. Follow the cue of the class you're in.

Lineages simply passed down different habits. What matters is moving with the breath.
